Gichin Funakoshi is considered as the “father” of modern day karate. And his name is the first when we acquaint ourselves with the history of Shotokan Karate.
In 1922, He became a master in his own unique art and then was invited to demonstrate karate to the Japanese public for the very first time. The demonstration lead to huge applaud and success that he was invited to stay in Japan and teach.
The word ‘karate’ took a turn for a greater meaning than just another form of martial arts training. Sensei Funakoshi’s ideologies helped transforming an art form into what is today, the ‘way of the empty hand.’
